Description of the Cultural School

Uddevalla Cultural School offers teaching in visual arts, dance, music, and theater for children and young people aged 5–26 years as well as holiday activities.

At the Cultural School, about 28 teachers/educators work, and we meet approximately 1300 children in our course activities and over 5000 children and young people in our various projects that we carry out together with, among others, schools and youth centers. Our mission is to provide meaningful leisure time by giving children and young people the opportunity to participate and develop based on their different conditions and levels of ambition. We do this by conducting fun and innovative activities in various forms of course setups as well as offering holiday activities and open events both at the Cultural School and other locations in the municipality. We have an established collaboration with youth centers and schools in the municipality as well as several residential areas, which allows us to operate in many different arenas and meet many children and young people.

Through this mission, the rights of children and young people to culture and cultural expression are ensured according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The purpose of the Cultural School is to teach and develop children's, young people's, and young adults' aesthetic expressions, to promote a curious lifelong learning. The activities are characterized by the equal value of all children and a norm-critical approach.

Job Responsibilities

  • You will primarily teach within our projects such as Creative School, In-school, and After-school, which take place in collaboration with primary schools.
  • You will start and develop our film and animation courses within the Cultural School.
  • You will work in subject teams with other teachers and be part of working groups responsible for planning joint activities.
  • The work includes planning and meeting time as well as working on various projects and activities with other subjects at the Cultural School.

We are looking for someone who

  • has good collaboration skills, initiative, is flexible, well-organized, and structured with a good ability to work both independently and together with others.
  • wants to contribute to our development work together with the teachers at the Cultural School.
  • wants to develop the film subject within the Cultural School, which will be an important continuation for students who encounter film in our projects at primary schools.
  • also has experience, knowledge, and methodology to work with group teaching.
  • has an artistic drive and above all - enjoys meeting children and young people.
  • understands the differences among all people, both cultural and social.
  • is open and curious and willing to constantly reassess your methods.

Qualifications

  • You have a suitable pedagogical university degree or other education that the employer deems appropriate.
  • We are looking for someone who is confident in teaching film/animation.
  • You have the ability to inspire children and young people to lifelong learning through your teaching style.
  • You have high and broad competence in film.
  • You are flexible and have a good ability to adapt teaching to students' needs.
  • Teaching certification is an advantage.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Other

The position is a 40% permanent employment with the possibility of a higher working degree if increased needs arise within the projects. You will be employed in a holiday position.

Employment is subject to the necessary decisions being made. For positions that involve direct and regular contact with children and young people, as well as for activities within LSS, care and nursing, health care, psychiatric care, and addiction treatment, a valid extract from the police's criminal record must be presented or submitted before employment.
